Failing $94 Million Online Healthcare Contract Excludes Minority Business Opportunity
SPRINGFIELD- Chair of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus and Assistant Senate Majority Leader Kimberly A. Lightford (D-Chicago) today expressed deep concern over an Associated Press report that suggests that Governor Bruce Rauner’s administration took action to purposely exclude state guidelines aimed at encouraging minority-owned business opportunities in an effort to steer a nearly $100 million taxpayer-funded contract to a private company that is charged with creating online efficiency in state employee health insurance processing.
On Saturday May 13, 2017 Assistant Majority Leader Kimberly A. Lightford and the 4th District Gentlemen’s Committee hosted the 5th Annual “We Adore Our Women” Mammograms for Mother’s Day Event.
Accompanying the Senator and the committee were doctors and nurses from Loyola and Loretto Hospitals.
While visiting salons, the medical staff were able to educate the community on early detection, risk and treatment. In addition to providing information, over 300 gift bags with Breast Cancer Awareness information and goodies were distributed.
Senator Lightford enjoyed an awesome day with the 4th District community. In hosting this annual event, she hopes to continue to bring light to Breast Cancer in an effort to decrease the death rate and increase awareness to the importance of early detection.

SPRINGFIELD- Assistant Majority Leader Kimberly A. Lightford (D-Maywood) released the following statement after the Senate approved education funding reform legislation:
“I am thrilled that this landmark reform has passed both chambers. This measure is about equity and the right to a quality education. I urge the governor to take our children out of politics and stop letting zip codes determine the quality of their education.”
