State Senator Kimberly A. Lightford (D-Maywood) continues her push to increase Illinois’ minimum wage with Senate Bill 1565. According to a recent Economic Policy Institute report, increasing Illinois’ minimum wage would help working families and give a much-needed boost to the State’s economy.
This week, faith leaders from communities statewide and members of the Raise Illinois coalition held a rally in the Capitol’s rotunda to show their support for the legislation during the first week of the 2012 spring legislative session in Springfield. Senator Lightford spoke at the rally about her continued support for the increase and about some of the challenges they face in seeking its passage. Watch the video, below:

SPRINGFIELD- Legislation that would create a process for eligible voters to be automatically registered was vetoed by Governor Bruce Rauner today.
Senate Bill 250 would allow for the Secretary of State’s office and similar state agencies to submit eligible voters’ information to the State Board of Elections when they visit their facilities for services.
Assistant Majority Leader Kimberly A. Lightford (D-Maywood) released the following statement:
“Minority groups throughout our history have fought for the right to vote, and we should be continuing that legacy of promoting participation in our democracy. I will remain in support of this measure and hope to see it come to fruition in the near future.”
